Archeline - My very first game
Archeline is my very first game, and while it is very short, it has taught me so much about making games.
Archeline is a (very) short platformer, inspired by the pixel art of old gameboy games.
You're a young explorer who finds an old castle where a princess has been taken prisoner. With your trusty laser gun you attempt to find and rescue the princess.
All the pixel art is created by me and I had so much fun doing that. This is also the first time I've used Godot (or any game engine) and it is such a great tool for making games.
I've been wanting to get into game dev for years. Almost 10, to be exact.
I never really did much about that when I was younger and now as working adult I don't have much time.
But when I saw the My First Game Jam, I decided that this was the moment to go and make a game.
I decided to go for a platformer since that seemed like a good basic game-type to start with. Since I also wanted to do most of the work myself I decided to try out making some Pixel Art. I love Pixel Art, it's also something I've wanted to try for years, but it also seems like something I could make some decent assets with if I kept it simple enough.
(I'm not terrible at drawing but I don't think I could draw stuff that would be good enough to use in a game)
I've learned so much about creating video games and while Archeline is far from perfect (or even just "good") I feel like it's a good start for me to continue with.
If I had more time for Archeline I would:
- Make more levels
- Learn more about level design to make better levels
- create more kinds of enemies
- Implement the second attack for the boss like I was planning to
- Maybe more than 1 boss
- Player weapon variation (probably still only one weapon but different kind of bullets or damage done)
- Better / more story
If you read this and have 1 minute to spare I would love it if you could play Archeline and give some feedback / positive criticism.
I hope you have a nice day, thank you for reading!
